Aldo Rainoldi
The Valtellina or Valtellina is the longest alpine valley and extends in the north of Lombardy in the immediate vicinity of Switzerland and Lake Como. The winegrowing there is in an absolute extreme wine: On the one hand, the steepness of the vineyards that stick formally on the slopes of the Alps and must be supported with retaining walls, so they do not slip off. The plots are mostly small and must be processed mainly by hand, the use of machinery is only very limited possible, in addition comes the rather rough alpine climate. YetThey are produced mainly by the four crulages that have DOCG status (Grumello, Inferno, Sassella and Valgella) and whose vineyards are the steepest and just south-facing, wines of unbelievable fineness and elegance that are second to none. However, the vineyard is steadily dwindling, there are just two dozen winegrowers left who do not shy away from working in the steep vineyards and produce with ambition and passion great red wines. One of the best counts Rainoldi, today led by Aldo Rainoldi in the third generation. This is impressively documented by numerous awards.
