Azienda Agricola Pietradolce - Vigneti in Solicchiata, Etna
The winery Pietradolce under the direction of the two brothers Michele and Mario Faro is among connoisseurs not only the absolute "Raising Stars" among the farms of Sicily, but also one of the best wineries in the Etna region - and they have been there for just ten years, what a success story! One of the reasons for this is undoubtedly the absolutely outstanding vineyard estate to be found, the vines are between 600 and 900 meters in altitude in the well-known top locations Zottorinoto and Rampante. A large part of the vineyards are created as so-called "Contrade", ie with retaining walls made of lava stone terraced on the slope facilities on sandy, skeletal Vulkan weathering soils. Two of the vineyards are between eighty and one hundred years old and still without root cause, as they have survived the phylloxera catastrophe. They produce especially mineral and complex wines. It grows exclusively on the Etna typical grape varieties Nerello mascalese and capuccio and the white variety Carricante, which are developed with much respect for the terroir and intuition.
