Azienda Giovanni Almondo
Domenico Almondo is the best advertising medium for the town of Monta in the Roero area: He is one of the top winemakers in Italy, known for his sensual Arneis. Therefore, the amiable agronomy graduate was also elected mayor by his fellow citizens. With the accuracy of a craftsman, he leads his small and fine family business. Almondo builds on the Arneis, which occupies at least 6 hectares of its vineyards (Nebbiolo only 4 hectares). In addition to this white "Vino emotivo" is the Nebbiolo "Bric Valdiana" as a top wine, a real insider tip, because it is actually a beautiful young Barolo. The Gambero Rosso has already awarded the Almondo winery three times the Three Glasses Award.
ARNEIS: This white grape, cultivated above all in the sandy soils of the Roero, used to be world-famous and was mostly made into sweet wines together with Nebbiolo. More recently, with the growing dry wine market, the Arneis has returned to more attention. It was Bruno Giacosa who eventually recultivated the vine. In recent years, the Arneis experienced a real boom. The wine is dry, full-bodied, fresh and with a scent of pears. If the yield is too high, it soon becomes pale and neutral.
